The “Empty Tank” Problem
The E4 Error is your Daikin AC’s way of saying it’s trying to pump gas but finding none. The Low Pressure Switch (LPS) detects that the refrigerant pressure has dropped below the safe operating limit.
Why it stops: Refrigerant gas also cools the compressor motor and carries oil. Running the compressor without gas (vacuum mode) will cause it to overheat and seize up permanently. E4 is a safety cutoff.
1 DIY Checks (Confirming the Leak)
Ice Formation
Check the outdoor unit valves (where pipes connect). If you see white ice on the thinner pipe (Discharge line), your gas pressure is low.
Oily Spots
Inspect the copper piping joints. Refrigerant oil escapes with the gas. Dark, oily patches on nuts or U-bends confirm a leak location.
Air Flow but No Cooling
The outdoor fan is running, the compressor is vibrating, but the air coming from the indoor unit is room temperature.
Atlas Aircon Repair Protocol
Strict Standard for Gas Leaks:
-
01.
Nitrogen Pressure Testing We don’t guess. We fill the system with 350 PSI of Nitrogen to find the exact pin-hole leak in the condenser or evaporator.
-
02.
Brazing & Vacuuming After welding the leak, we use a high-vacuum pump to remove moisture. Moisture + R32 Gas = Acid, which kills compressors. Vacuum is mandatory.
-
03.
Gas Charging by Weight Daikin Inverters need precise charging (e.g., 850g). We use a digital scale, not just pressure gauges, for 100% cooling efficiency.
