The “Heat Wave” Problem

The CH 06 Error points to the Outdoor Pipe Thermistor. This sensor is attached to the copper condenser coils in your outdoor unit. Its job is to monitor how hot the refrigerant is getting as it dumps heat outside.

Why it fails: Being outside, this sensor is exposed to rain, sun, and dust. Over time, moisture penetrates the sensor head, or corrosion eats away at the wire connections, causing the resistance reading to drift or fail completely.

1 DIY Visual Checks

Moisture Damage

Inspect the outdoor unit wiring. If the sensor wire insulation is cracked or the connector is wet, the sensor has likely shorted out.

Physical Damage

During installation or cleaning, the thin sensor wire can get pinched or cut. Check for any physical breaks in the wire leading to the coil.

Connector Corrosion

Open the top cover of the outdoor unit. Check the sensor plug on the PCB. Green or white powder (corrosion) on the pins will stop the signal.

Atlas Aircon Repair Protocol

How we fix the CH 06 Fault:

  1. 01.
Resistance Check (Ohms) We test the sensor. LG Outdoor **Pipe** sensors are typically **5k Ohms** at 25°C. If it reads infinity (Open) or very low (Short), it’s dead.
  2. 02.
Sensor Replacement We replace the faulty sensor with a genuine LG Outdoor Sensor assembly. We ensure the new sensor is inserted securely into the copper holder.
  3. 03.
Corrosion Protection We apply a protective spray or tape to the new connector to prevent moisture from causing the same error again in the future.

Estimated Repair Cost (Atlas Aircon)

Wiring Repair: ₹450 – ₹600
New Sensor: ₹850 – ₹1,200

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I use an Indoor Sensor (CH 01/02) for Outdoor?
**No.** Indoor sensors are usually 10k Ohms. Outdoor Pipe sensors (CH 06) are often **5k Ohms**. Using the wrong resistance value will confuse the PCB and the AC will not run efficiently.
Is CH 06 the same as CH 41 or CH 44?
No. **CH 06** is the Outdoor Pipe Sensor. **CH 41** is the Discharge Pipe Sensor (compressor top). **CH 44** is the Outdoor Air Sensor. They are all different sensors located in different parts of the outdoor unit.
Can I bypass the sensor?
No. The PCB relies on this sensor to control fan speed and expansion valve operation. Bypassing it will trigger an immediate error or cause damage to the compressor.
